The DIY Gourmet Superfood Hot Chocolate Kit includes:
Cacao Powder and Cacao Nibs - Chocolate/Cacao, in its purest form, has been found to have a tremendous amount of health promoting nutrients, including a number of minerals that our western population has been found to be most deficient in, including Magnesium and Chromium as well as extremely high levels of antioxidants. On top of that, Cacao also contains “Feel Good” chemicals such as PEA, the Love chemical and Anandamide, the Bliss Chemical. These are neurotransmitters that act on the brain and improve mood. These are ideal nutrients to deal with both winter’s blustery temperatures and reduced sun exposure.
Maca is a superfood that grows at high altitudes in the Andes near the snow line and therefore is a hardy plant with adaptogenic qualities. Maca has been found to be helpful with hormone balancing as well as boosting, energy, stamina and the immune system.
Pure Wildcrafted Vanilla Bean adds not only an element of flavor, but also provides some health benefits of its own. Vanilla’s vitamin and mineral content help relieve pain, stress, anxiety and depression, among others.
Organic Coconut sugar is an unprocessed sugar that still contains all of its vitamins and minerals, unlike the refined white sugar that has saturated the food supply. These nutrients are needed to help the body metabolize the sugar. Similar to sugar, Pink Himalayan Salt also contains its nutrients, unlike the table salt that has been stripped of all other minerals.

The bitter component in the chocolate flavor blends in well with a number of other “superfoods” or “superherbs”. This is great news if you want to take in more medicine in a way that is delicious and easy. One “superherb” that blends in well and has been included as part of the recipe below is the Chaga Mushroom Powder. Chaga is a medicinal mushroom whose history of use dates back thousands of years. Recent findings have confirmed its powerful health benefits that include boosting the immune system and cancer fighting properties. Chaga can be purchased separately here.
Superfood DIY Gourmet Hot Chocolate
2 Cups of Organic Nut Milk or Organic Dairy Milk (preferably raw)
2 TBSP Raw Organic Coconut Oil
2 TBSP Raw Organic Cacao Powder
1 TBSP Raw Organic Maca Powder
½ TBSP Chaga Powder (wild food)
1 to 2 TBSP of Organic Coconut Sugar or unprocessed sweetener of choice
1 good sized pinch of Pink Himalayan Salt or Sea Salt
1 good sized pinch of Organic Vanilla
1 TBSP Raw Organic Cacao Nibs
Warm up your nut milk to your liking, (but not to boiling so you can preserve the nutrients – around 115 degrees F/46 degrees C appears to be the commonly accepted temperature where nutrients begin to degrade give or take).
Add the milk to your blender. Add in the Coconut Oil, the Cacao Powder, the Maca Powder, the Chaga Powder, the Coconut Sugar or sweetener of choice, the Salt and the Vanilla. Blend till frothy. Pour into cups and top with the Cacao Nibs. You can also blend the cacao nibs with the rest of the ingredients, but putting them in last adds a nice texture, as the nibs soften a little after soaking in the hot chocolate for a few minutes.
